At Edelman, we are committed to minimizing our operational footprint. This is the environmental impact caused by the day-to-day operations, such as energy use, transportation, and waste generation. By reducing our operational footprint, we are contributing to SDG13 Climate Action.

We are reducing our operational footprint through the following ways:

1.     Installing solar panels

By investing in renewable energy, we can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and decrease our carbon emissions. Specifically, we have installed 3.438 solar panels at our facilities in Reeuwijk and Montfoort. These solar panels generated 1.192.355 Kwh (2022). For comparison: that is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 481 Dutch households. (bron: www.milieucentraal.nl)

2.     Increasing energy efficiency with LED lighting and motion

Our office and showroom in Reeuwijk are installed with LED lighting. Additionally, our Christmas lighting products in our showroom work with energy saving  motion sensors to further increase energy efficiency.

3.     Choosing sustainable transportation

  • Since 2019, Edelman has formally adopted a policy to fully electrify its fleet.
  • We support our employees with an attractive cycling policy which stimulates more exercise and also reduces CO2 emissions. For those living within 10km of the offices, a budget is available so they can choose a bike to their liking.
  • When we travel to international trade fairs to present our newest collection or when we are visiting our suppliers, we limit our emissions and energy usage through carpooling schemes. Regarding air travel, we compensate our carbon emissions by investing in a project in Nepal through our partner ATPI Halo ™. This project focuses on providing more energy efficient cookstoves to domestic households that reduce fuel use, lower household pollution and save families valuable time previously spent on collecting firewood. More specifically, this project helps the underrepresented, with an additional focus on women, enabling them to develop entrepreneurial skills and helping them to be part of the social dialogue.

4.     Reusing stand materials from our showroom and events

Every 3 years, our showroom gets a complete make-over to provide our customers with an unforgettable experience. Additionally, we are building unique event stands to showcase our products during home decoration fairs. In order to prevent waste, our in-house design and styling team turns old stand materials into new ones.

We remain focused on further reducing our operational footprint. Yet, due to our business model, we are aware that more than 90% of our total environmental footprint actually comes from our products. Therefore, we are working hard to make our assortment more sustainable with the ‘Because We Care’ labeled items.
