Terracotta

Our ‘Because We Care’ labeled terracotta pottery is treated with a natural shiny cold paint.

Using a natural cold paint decreases the energy usage during the production process. Terracotta is a common type of earthenware which is made from natural red clay. The clay is fired in a kiln at relatively low temperatures (1,000–1,150°C), producing a slightly porous product. To overcome its porosity, the fired object is covered with fine ground glass powder suspended in water (glaze) and is then fired a second time. By using cold paint, a second time firing is prevented, thereby decreasing significant energy usage.
