Musa leather

The name ‘Musa’ refers to the scientific name of the banana family ‘Musaceae’.  This material feels like real leather, but is made from 85% banana fibers and 15% wool.

The banana plant is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, able to grow 1.5 meter in a single day under the right conditions. Once the fruit matures and is harvested within 6-9 months, the banana stem dies while the roots continue to live. From its roots, a new plant regrows. Instead of discarding the banana stem, this agricultural waste is collected and mixed with regenerative sheep wool to produce Musa leather.
